Nepean: Our Neighbourhoods, Our Community

These pages feature a sample of the stories and photos gathered by the Nepean Museum for their exhibit, Our Neighbourhoods, Our Community, currently on display at the museum.  The exhibit explores the history of Nepean, right up to its annexation by Ottawa in 2001.

Nepean is a vibrant community just west of Ottawa, which has encompassed as many as 60 neighbourhoods and smaller villages at various points in its history. Each of these communities have their own unique history and identity. Our Neighbourhoods, Our Community features the stories and photographs of some of these neighbourhoods and celebrates the unique identity of each neighbourhood and the people who lived there.

The citizens of Nepean enthusiastically replied to the museum’s request for information, bringing photographs and stories that provided a personal glimpse as to what life in Nepean was like in the past. Visitors generously shared their memories of early community development, their school days, family lore and so much more.

The neighbourhoods highlighted on the following pages are those that require further information to truly tell the story of the community. If you, or someone you know has memories or photographs of these areas, prior to 2001, please share them with the Nepean Museum by contacting collections manager Emily Bracewell at 613-723-7936 or collections@nepeanmuseum.ca.
