Billings Estate National Historic Site
Just 10 minutes from downtown Ottawa exists a hidden treasure that holds the key to much of Ottawa’s local history. Who built Billings Bridge? Who profited from the Rideau Canal? What was life like in 19th century Ottawa? Billings Estate has these answers and more. Come by car, bike or bus to spend the day exploring, experiencing and connecting with more than 150 years of history. New exhibits, creative programs, and customized tours are all designed to tell the story of one of Ottawa’s founding families – appealing to both the young and the young at heart. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff are trained to respond to each person’s needs – no matter their age.
Braddish and Lamira Billings built the estate in 1828. Today, it tells the story of five generations of Billings family members and their influence on Ottawa’s development into the city it is today.
Billings Estate offers many programs for kids, adults and families, as well as an outdoor tea service in the estate’s lush gardens.
