Smiths Falls Police Service -Putting the Community First for 125 Years
The year 2012 signifies a milestone for Smiths Falls Police Service with the celebration of its 125th Anniversary! Finding their origins in the 1850s, before there was an organized police force, civilians were appointed as part time Constables to uphold local law and order. It wasn’t until 1887, when the Town of Smiths Falls hired a full time Chief of Police, that the Smiths Falls Police Service was born. This one man Police department was in place until 1910, the Chief working 14 hour days, 7 days a week!
