Serge Barbe, City of Ottawa Archives Was Preston Street named after Isabella Preston, the celebrated horticulturalist who worked at the Central Experimental Farm in the 1920s?
The name of Preston Street appears on Registered Plan No. 13 for Lot 39, First Concession of the Ottawa Front in the Township of Nepean, registered 4th February 1858 at the Ottawa Land Registry Office by G.H. Preston (George Honey), Land Agent. The proprietor is shown as being James Rochester, his brother-in-law.
Isabella Preston was apparently born in 1881, long after the name of Preston Street appears on this plan and maps of Rochesterville (annexed to Ottawa in 1889).
